“Preparing for your Chandler, Arizona newborn photo shoot” is a great read if you have just booked or are looking to book your newborn photo shoot with me. I am so excited to capture these first sweet moments for you and your family. Offering in-home newborn photography services in and around Chandler, AZ I believe that this is where you and your newborn baby will be most relaxed. While being able to include a setting that is uniquely yours, in-home newborn sessions help keep older siblings entertained and allow me to include family pets as well. My number one goal is to offer an experience that’s enjoyable for everyone involved. This starts by making sure your space is ready to go upon my arrival.

Your home does not have to be perfect. After all it is your home which is supposed to look lived in. I recommend that you focus on simply decluttering your space. Please also give windows or mirrors a quick wipe, as streaks or dust on these surfaces can be very obvious in photographs. I’m a bit of a neat freak. You will find me move items that may appear distracting in photographs. Whether that’s a remote control on your night stand or your cell phone left on the dresser, those are items that I’d like to avoid in your newborn portraits. I promise I won’t turn your home upside down.

While I have props and accessories available for you, I suggest you choose a simple onesie without prints and/or patters. Simplicity will go a long way and doesn’t take away from the sweet features of your precious angel. Sweet Gael is wearing one of my rompers that worked perfectly with the color scheme in his home. It is available for you as well along with many other cute outfits, swaddle wraps, bonnets, and headbands. The same holds true for you, mom and dad. While wearing comfortable clothing is highly recommended, I do encourage neutral colors, steering away from shirts with logos or bold patterns. Casual clothing is perfect and bare feet look most natural in a home setting. Moms, consider a light flowy shirt, maxi dress, or a pretty cotton gown that will be both comfortable and soft while you are cuddling with your new baby.

Are worried about whether or not your baby will sleep during a newborn photo shoot? I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to be concerned. I have a lot of experience working with sleepy newborn babies and not-so-sleepy newborn babies. Please make sure the room temperature is good to go. Please turn on the heat or, alternatively, turn off the air conditioning. The adults may feel a bit hot and uncomfortable, but your baby will be toasty and happy. If your baby is still feeling unsettled we’ll work together to figure out what they need – perhaps it’s gas, hunger or they just want to be held. My approach to newborn photography is entirely baby-led. I only photograph one newborn session per day to have as much time as we need for your baby to settle. All babies will fall asleep eventually – we just have to follow their lead. Don’t believe me? Just keep on reading.

My number one secret weapon to help calm your baby is undoubtedly the soothing sound of the BabyShusher. Providing a rhythmic shushing sound, this doctor – approved miracle mesmerises babies and infants into a sleep state once their basic nurturing needs have been met. The BabyShusher has been a must have tool in my camera bag for many years and only requires new batteries every now and then. Highly recommended if you don’t already own one. Once your little one is asleep, feel free to watch over my shoulders to witness the magic of newborn posing.

I can’t get over his adorable smile. I think he’s got that from his mama whose maternity portraits I captured only a few short weeks ago.
