Thank you for your interest in the emotional birth photography session I photographed at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Northern Virginia. This is the very first birth I have ever photographed and I am so incredibly thankful I was given the opportunity to watch a baby welcomed into this world. Maya contacted me on Facebook a couple of months ago. We have talked about a newborn session at their home. When Maya found out about the c-section she asked me if I would be willing to take their photos at the hospital. I couldn’t say no. I had a c-section when my daughter was born and was very interested in capturing the first moments of Maya’s baby; the moments she wouldn’t be able to experience when undergoing surgery. The morning of the c-section was very exciting. I kept thinking about Maya and her husband and what they were thinking. Arriving at the hospital, I felt sick to my stomach. I really did. I didn’t think I could do this. I thought I would pass out?Unfortunately, I was not allowed to see Maya before she was taken care of in the OR. Her husband, Bryan, picked me up approximately ten minutes before we were able to go into the OR to support Maya and to see baby Everly Grace brought into this world. When we entered the OR, everything went pretty quickly. Maya looked fantastic, anxiously awaiting the arrival of her daughter. She had a big smile on her face. It was beautiful to watch. I was told to stay behind Bryan with little space to move around. I respected the doctors and the nurses. After all, they needed to make sure Maya and the baby were safe. The greatest moment was hearing Everly’s first cry. I think it made me cry, too. I felt like I became a mommy for a second time right there at the Fair Oaks Hospital on December 16, 2015? Everly was taken great care of by the doctors on duty that morning. I loved the moment when Bryan was cutting the umbilical cord and when he was holding his daughter for the very first time. It still gives me goosebumps. At the same time I felt sad for Maya that she couldn’t hold her baby girl or watch her from the angle Bryan and I were looking at Everly. Thankfully it didn’t take too long for Everly to be reunited with her mommy? Shortly after, Bryan left the OR with his baby girl and I followed him out. Doctors told me that I wasn’t allowed with the three of them any longer, so I left the hospital with amazing impressions that I still talk about to this date. Thank you Maya and Bryan for letting me be part of such a beautiful and intimate moment in your life. Your baby girl is quiet a blessing.
