I believe that some things in life are meant to be. A few months ago, I advertised for a Mother’s Day Giveaway. While there were many moms nominated to win the complimentary photo session, Owen’s mom, Samantha, ended up being the lucky winner. Hearing her story and meeting her little nugget for his one year portraits yesterday, I am glad that I was able to capture these images for her and her family.
Samantha developed Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome during her pregnancy. Owen was born at 34 weeks. He ended up being in the NICU for 169 days between 3 different NICU’s! Owen’s lungs were very immature when he was born (comparable to a 24 week old). He also had severe acid reflux. Having dealt with several procedures at his young age, he was put on a feeding tube which is placed in his stomach (gtube). Owen has been in feeding and occupational therapy to help with his feeding deficits and delay in motor skills due to his extended NICU time. Fortunately, he now looks like a “typical” one year old.
Having missed out on the newborn portraits for obvious reasons, Samantha envisioned commemorating her son’s first birthday with a cake smash photo session. And so we did😍Samantha, it was such a pleasure spending my Sunday afternoon with the two of you. Singing to and with Owen, playing peek-a-boo and being silly to get him to smile truly made my day.
