“What Props Should I Bring For A Newborn Photography Session?”
Welcoming a new addition to your family is a momentous occasion, and capturing those first precious moments with a newborn photography session is a beautiful way to celebrate. You might be wondering, “What props should I bring for a newborn photography session?”
As a Washington, D.C., newborn photographer, I’m sharing my top tips on what props you need to bring for a newborn photography session. Let’s dive in!
Table of Contents
ToggleI quite frequently have clients ask, “What props should I bring for a newborn photography session?”. The short answer is that you don’t have to bring any! I provide a variety of props, including blankets, wraps, hats, baskets, and more. However, if you have specific items that hold special meaning to you or your family, feel free to bring them along. These personalized props can add an extra layer of sentimental value to your photos.
The possibilities are endless when choosing a prop for your session. If you’re at home, your own home or nursery makes the setting unique to a client and will spark memories versus a blank studio backdrop. However, if you’re going into the studio, here are a few ideas to get you started:
This is the perfect way to make your photos extra personal and meaningful for years to come. Choose an heirloom quilt made by your grandmother or a soft, cozy baby blanket with sentimental value.
A newborn wrap or swaddle can be a unique addition to your session. Choose one with your baby’s name embroidered on it or a special pattern that celebrates their birth month to add an extra special touch.
Think of a family heirloom that you can include in the photos, such as a toy your baby’s sibling once played with or a stuffed animal from your own childhood. This will help create beautiful family memories for years to come.
A fun idea is to include items or props from your own profession. For example, if you’re a doctor, bring along a stethoscope; if you’re an engineer, bring in some tools and hardhats; if you’re an artist, bring some paintbrushes and canvases. Those items can be used as unique props in the session and can tell a special story about your family.
I hope I’ve helped answer “What props should I bring for a newborn photography session?”. Customizing your newborn photography session with your own prop is a great way to add a personal touch and make the experience even more special.
