By 6 months, many babies are sitting up on their own, which changes the whole feel of a session. This is usually when personality really starts to come through in photographs. Babies this age laugh easily, react to toys and games, and often settle into a favorite expression or two that shows up again and again. Sessions at this stage tend to feel more playful than earlier ones, with more movement, more interaction, and usually a few genuinely funny outtakes along the way.
By 9 months, babies are often on the move even if they aren’t walking quite yet. Crawling, pulling up, and exploring everything within reach are all part of this stage. Babies this age also tend to have very clear opinions about what they do and don’t want to do, which makes for genuine, unposed images that feel true to who they are.
